Charleston Dining | Poke Tea House

If there's one thing that we can all agree on, it's that Charleston has no shortage of great places to eat. Restaurants come and go around here like seasons change. I like to keep a running list of all the new spots I want to try. My list seems to grow faster than I can check places off, but I did have a chance to check out a new spot in Charleston before it was even added to my checklist.

Often I come across delicious and colorful photos of poke dishes on Instagram, most of which are from trendy spots in California. Which is why I was so thrilled when I heard that the Poke Tea House was coming to Charleston. Finally, our very own local place to drop in for a quick,  fresh poke bowl! If you're not familiar with poke, it's raw fish served as an appetizer in Hawaiian Cuisine, also the Hawaiian verb for “section” or “to slice or cut”. Poke Tea House has a nice selection of bowls on the menu or you can customize one yourself. I chose the latter. A delicious bowl filled with brown rice, ahi tuna, edamame, avocado, cucumber, sesame seeds, scallions and classic poke sauce  — you can't go wrong!
If you're not into the raw stuff, there are cooked options as well, like this bowl below. Did I mention you can choose your rice? This one consists of sushi rice, chicken, avocado, mango, cilantro, sesame seeds, fried onions and classic poke sauce. Customizing your own bowl is definitely the way to go.
Or, if you are a fan of the raw stuff, you can double up on your protein. This bowl has a spicy tuna, ahi tuna, avocado, edamame, cucumbers, cilantro, fried onions, and sriracha mayo.
The options are endless, and overwhelming if you're indecisive like me. But I definitely think customizing your own bowl is the way to go.  You choose your base, one or two proteins, three main ingredients to mix in,  a flavor and two toppings and you have yourself a colorful masterpiece. I'm looking forward to my next visit so I can try out a few other combinations. Bowls aren't the only thing Poke Tea House is serving up, they also have poke salads, sushi burritos and bubble tea.

If you're local to Charleston, I definitely recommend stopping in and seeing what they are all about!
