Weekend Recap: Relax and Repeat

Not too much excitement to report from the weekend, and I’m okay with that. We've been out of town the past few weekends, so it was nice to be at home and relax a little.  Aside from getting the usual chores done around the house, we did manage to make it out for dinner.   We went back to The Obstinate Daughter, which has become a new favorite of ours. Surprisingly Whit and I both tried something different than we ordered last time. Typically when we find something we like, we stick with it. Everything on the menu sounded so delicious that we couldn’t help but change it up. However, we did order The King’s honey, the same cocktail I raved over last time we were there. It  is seriously one of the best cocktails I’ve ever had. I actually went on a mission to find all of the ingredients to make it at home, but was unsuccessful. I stopped by Total Wine but they were out of the main ingredient I needed. This mission is far from over.

I had the fig nasty for dinner. A thin crust pizza, cooked in a wood fired oven, topped with sweet figs, red onions, tangy vincotto, salty speck and pungent Gorgonzola, which was delicious! As much as I love pizza and enjoyed my meal, I did have dinner envy over what my husband ordered. I had been eyeing the ricotta gnocchi but was reluctant to order when I saw the word horseradish in the description. Our server highly recommended the dish and assured us that the horseradish was not over powering, and she was right. I stole a few bites of Whit’s and was very pleased. I will definitely be ordering the gnocchi next time I go back. Don’t get me wrong, the pizza was amazing, but this pasta dish was phenomenal. Pillow-like ricotta gnocchi floating in a bowl of short rip ragu, what’s not to love? Had there been any room left in our stomachs, we would have gone for dessert. I saw a few things coming out the kitchen that were pretty tempting.  The amazing food isn’t the only they have going for them; the setting is pretty great too. From the grey weathered wood walls to the rope lighting along the ceiling, the atmosphere is cozy and inviting. If you haven’t checked out The Obstinate Daughter yet, I highly recommend it.

Below are a few interior shots I pulled from their website.

YES to figs on pizza, or even preserved on a Ritz with a slice of aged cheddar. This is on my to-visit list for sure!
