Mercantile and Mash | Dinner To-Go

Located on East Bay Street, in the newly renovated Cigar Factory, is Mercantile and Mash, a gourmet food emporium filled with local love. I was immediately intrigued by this adorable retail shop the moment I stepped foot in the door. I couldn't keep my eyes from wandering all around, from the shelves stocked with local products, to the display of pastries up at the coffee counter, there was so much to take in. I was there to pick up my dinner for two to-go but had to check out the goods first. There is plentiful seating for dining if you choose to pass on the grab-and-go lunch. This spot is definitely on my list of places to stop in and enjoy a bite for lunch.

In addition to their breakfast and grab-and-go menu, Mercantile and Mash also offers precooked dinners to go that change weekly. It's so convenient to pop dinner in the oven and have it ready in minutes, after a long day at work. The meals are perfectly portioned, in oven-safe packages with directional stickers on top. Each week there are two selections to choose from, each including a protein, veggies and carbs. You can check out their weekly menu update on their Facebook page.  Our mouthwatering meal consisted of a bacon-wrapped pork tenderloin with hoisin glaze, sweet and sour red cabbage, honey roasted sweet potatoes, and a salad of baby greens, all for $35. Not bad for a home cooked meal that required minimal effort and time in the kitchen.
I got home from work, warmed our meal in the oven for about 20 minutes and dinner was served. The hoisin glaze made the pork tenderloin extra flavorful and moist. The sweet and sour cabbage was a favorite of mine as well. The tang of the vinegar masked by a hint of sweetness was the perfect combo and paired nicely with the other sides. It was just the right amount of food to satisfy us both, with a few sweet potatoes to spare.
The ordering process couldn't have been an easier. I placed my order, told them when I would be by to pick it up, stopped in and scooped up the brown paper bag filled with dinner, checked out and off I went. Oh, and I couldn't refrain from making a purchase from their retail section while waiting. I was thrilled to find a bottle of Cannonborough Honey Basil that I will be using as a mixer in my cocktails.

I would definitely take advantage of their prepared meal service again. Not only was it convenient, but it was also delicious. This is perfect for those days that you know you won't have time to spare in the evenings.
Only one meal is pictured because my husband was too hungry to wait on his plate to be photographed.

*My dinner to go was complimentary, however all opinions are my own.

  1. Looks so good! Not a bad price either! I'll have to pick up a meal one night. Since having Oliver cooking has been the last thing I've wanted to do!

    1. It really was a great meal. I can imagine it's tough to find time in the kitchen with a newborn and a full time job. Definitely give them a try! :)
