We can't wait to welcome baby boy Smith in June! I had a strong gut feeling that it was a boy, and I guess mother's intuition was right! I'm excited to finally be able to start buying clothes and planning the nursery. The funny part about this is, we've actually had the gender results in an envelope for weeks now. At first we thought we wanted to do some sort of gender reveal party but then decided against it. It really wasn't bothering me that I had the results but wasn't looking at them. Maybe it was because we've been so busy that I haven't thought about it or maybe it's because deep down I felt like I already knew what they said. My friends were in disbelief that we had enough self control to not open the envelope. Well, all that flew out of the window last week when Charleston got hit with a historical snow storm. Whit and I were stuck indoors for far too long and the envelope started to linger in the back of my mind, so we decided to go for it! Hence the snow announcement.
Hello second trimester! I'm currently 16 weeks as of yesterday and I'm starting to see more significant changes. Here's a little bit about what's currently going on.
How far along? 16 weeks and 1 day
Baby’s size: According to the Baby Center app, he is the size of an avocado.
Weight gain: 3 lbs as of my last visit, will get an update tomorrow. Update- total of 4.4 lbs.
Energy: As I mentioned in my last post, my energy came back about a month ago which was so nice. I'm trying to enjoy this time because I've been told it all goes away again in the third trimester.
Appetite: During my first trimester I couldn’t stand the thought of most foods, especially meat and I didn’t have much appetite. That soon went away, but as of lately I'm beginning to feel hungry way more often, especially in the mornings. Breakfast is currently my favorite meal of the day!
Food Cravings: All I can seem to think about lately is breakfast food. This pregnancy is leaving me craving some of my childhood favorites, like toaster strudels, pop-tarts, cereal, thick bagels with cream cheese. Although I've only given into the bagel and cereal, I have plans to add some things to my grocery list this weekend. :/ And as for my love of Cheese It's I mentioned in my last post, that ship has sailed thanks to a stomach bug last weekend. Moving on...
Things I Miss: Runny eggs, rare beef and sushi. Those three things are bugging me the most. I use to eat a runny egg for breakfast almost every morning, so I've had to adjust. And as for meat, if it's well done, I don't want it. As for the sushi, I'm trying to trick myself by ordering the cooked rolls but let's face it, it's just not the same.
Shortness of breath: This has come as a bit of a surprise to me. I've always been good about maintaining a fairly stable gym routine, inclusive of cardio weights and total body training. This left me confused at how I could possibly be short of breath just by walking up the stairs, but it's happening and it's so strange.
Workouts: I'm doing my best to spend a minimum of three days a week in the gym for an hour at a time. I'm still taking a Red Zone class once a week, with modifications of course. Most of my time has been spent on the treadmill and honestly I'm started to get bored with it. I'm considering signing up for a few months of Barre Evolution which I've always been a fan of. I've heard it's a good option for women who are expecting, so we will see.
Sleep: Thankfully I haven't had trouble sleeping, but crazy dreams started this week. I mean like the strangest things.

Movement: We saw lots of this during my last sonogram, but I'm patiently waiting on the actual feeling. I've read that many times women who are carrying their first child mistake movement and flutters for gas bubbles or hunger pangs. I've been trying to really concentrate lately to see if I can feel anything but now I think it's in my head. So I will patiently wait.
Wardrobe: I haven't started purchases maternity clothes yet, but I am starting to see a small little bump through my clothes, especially workout tops. My jeans still fit, but are more comfortable using the hair tie trick...thank goodness for that!
Don't mind the horrible pictures, but this is all I had to share. I need to work on this going forward.

Aw congratulations!! You'll love having a little boy. They're the sweetest and just love their momma's to pieces! I didn't feel Oliver move till around week 18 but this second time I've felt the move at 13 weeks! Makes me wonder if I felt Oliver sooner, just didn't realize it! I've been loving breakfast food as well! I think it's just comforting and satisfying!
